At EPLA East High School our students determine the flow of their school day.

For too long, students have been stuck in classrooms listening to lectures despite knowing the material, unable to do work for other classes,  to get ahead or catch up, so time away from school can be spent doing extracurriculars, as family time, or time with friends. This leads to students who are disengaged, uninterested in what they are learning, and driven to make reckless choices of how they spend their time.

Here at EPLA East High, students are encouraged to take charge of what they are learning so if they can show that they have learned their material, they can move on to another section of the lesson, do homework for other classes,  spend time in student clubs, playing table tennis in our flex space or spend time in our on-campus facilities like the library, music studio or e-sports lab.

On the flip side, if a student is struggling with their course work, this frees up time for them to receive additional support and spend more time on course work until they have mastered it.

This allows our students to not only have a more engaging school day but helps them understand that their time and freedom is truly in their hands, as it would be in the real world.

This approach helps develop skills like Planning, Organization, and Accountability which are essential in the real world, be that in college, the workforce, the military, or wherever our students choose to go.
