The Three E’s of EPLA East Success: Engagement, Enrichment, and Every Sport
We pride ourselves on giving the best to our scholars at EPLA East. We engage our scholars in academics, in social-emotional learning, and in play!
We believe in personalized learning at our small middle and high school. We start our morning with a “power hour” every day so our teachers can check-in with our scholars’ progress and help them along when they need it. This time can be used to catch-up but also for curriculum enrichment projects if a scholar is pushing ahead. Likewise, an academic check-in is a great way to check in emotionally with our scholars as well so we can pump them up when they need it or offer advice if they want it.
We keep things enjoyable and interesting with programs and clubs at EPLA East. In our Entrepreneurship Program, we teach our high schoolers how to run a business in the real world. For our middle schoolers, we practice our core values in our CRSHH Program that hosts a weekly student-led assembly celebrating scholars who demonstrated collaboration, responsibility, smart decision-making, humbleness, and/or a hungriness to succeed.
At our tuition-free public school, we also hold clubs during the week like Yearbook, Party-Planning, Robotics, National Junior Honors Society (NJHS), and yes, Esports. And while the Esports Club competes in our computer lab, recently our Pokémon Club went on a field trip to catch those pesky Pikachu on the go. Talk about collaboration! We also offer your traditional sports, like volleyball, flag football, basketball, baseball, softball and soccer, so get some practice in!
Summer Success
Call it summer school or call it summer enrichment camp, in the end, the two weeks we have scholars on the EPLA East campus after school ends results in summer success. Our high schoolers are busy preparing to take the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Assessment which allows them to take (free!) college courses with us during the academic year. Our middle schoolers focus on project-based learning, like…a zombie apocalypse! No time to be bored as you’re calculating what a thirty percent survival rate is when there are undead around the corner…
Done with My Work – Now What?
Finished with your daily objectives? Don’t just sit there, let’s go! Where? To our beautiful airy forum to scheme how you’ll help your House add some points, or outside to kick a soccer ball around, or the esports lab to play your favorite games! We want you to take charge of your studies and have built-in incentives to help motivate you. Nothing like a little freedom after completing some hard work – breaks are important at our forward-thinking school.
